10:15am:  Creating Connections, Building Bridges... Together:  Sharing the Importance of Play Based    
                   Learning with Families
presented by Briana Kurlinkus
Play is a child's most powerful tool for learning. Yet how many times have you heard a parent say, "All my child wants to do is play!" or "At school the teachers just let the children play!" Communicating with families about the meaning and importance of play is an ongoing challenge. This presentation will be helpful as you begin by exploring the basic concepts of play-based learning with families.

Learning Objectives

• Identify what is play and its importance in early learning
• Outline what play-based learning looks like through hands on learning 
• How to support play-based learning both in the classroom and at home 
• Understand the adults (family or teachers)role in play . Share resources with families on play-based learning

Briana Kurlinkus is the Youth Development Director of Early Childhood Education for the YMCA of Dane County, Inc. Briana has worked for the YMCA for 13 years. As the Director of Early Childhood Education, I have the pleasure of overseeing all areas of Early Childhood Education which includes, Licensed Preschool, 4K and Early Childhood Enrichment Programs, 

Briana holds an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education from Madison College and a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and Social Work. Career experience includes 20+ years in the Early Childhood Field working with children ages birth to school age. Throughout her years in the field, Briana has worked in many capacities, teacher, early childhood department trainer and director. 

Briana lives in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin with her 5 1/2 year old daughter, Brandelynn. In her spare time, Briana enjoys crafting, Badger football, planning in my happy planner, spending time with family and friends and taking memorable adventures with my daughter.

11:15am:  Special Needs Parenting/Nannying: More the Same than Difference presented by Jessica Schuster
Parents are constantly reminded how their special needs children are different. There is a balance between extra support and inclusion.

Learning Objectives
• Identify some common special needs - Down Syndrome, Autism 
• A week in the life of....Jacob Schuster 3 yo with Down Syndrome 
• How to support inclusion 
• Share resources with families

Jessica Schuster is a Radiation Oncology physician at University of Wisconsin and mom of 3 boys (James - 6, Jacob - 4, Jason - 9 months) who lives in McFarland Wisconsin. I serve as a board member of the Madison Area Down Sydrome Society with focus on medical outreach. I also enjoy Clemson football, horseback riding, hanging out with boys, and serving in our church - McFarland Lutheran.

12:15pm:  Resumes, Contracts and Communication presented by Micaela Berry
I will discuss what to highlight to parents/agencies on your resume, how to best sell your expertise for the salary you deserve, and tools to handle the nuances of misunderstandings.

Micaela Berry is the  Owner of Peace of Mind Nannies LLC,  Executive Director of Harambee Village Doulas,  and a Certified Lactation Specialist. She is certified as an Infant Specialist, Protective Factors Trainer, and Ages and Stages Ambassador. With a degree in Early Child-hood Development and Art Therapy, Berry has had a multifaceted career and is dedicated to helping families in every season of their parenting, supporting care givers with the tools to be successful, and advocating for those whose voices aren’t heard.
